Coffee & Conversation @ Saint James Dexter

How do the US’s high levels of incarceration affect our communities? What alternatives do we have to imprisoning those who break the law?

Lois Pullano, founder of Citizens for Prison Reform, and Aaron Kinzel, lecturer in criminal justice studies at the University of Michigan-Dearborn and Vice President of Citizens for Prison Reform, will share personal experiences around incarceration and its impact on families, evaluate financial realities behind the US prison system, and assess the impact of related policies such as the legalization of marijuana, youth incarceration, and expungement of criminal records.

Join us to discuss and unpack our sentencing practices, the ongoing war on drugs, mental illness and incarceration, and what restorative justice can do for communities.

Coffee & Conversation events are free and open to the public.
