Carol Mader, Vicar
Mother Carol is our vicar and has been at Saint James for over five years. She has served in the Dioceses of Michigan, Arizona, and Indianapolis and was ordained as a priest in 1988. Carol has served as adjunct faculty and as an academic advisor at Lansing Community College. She has two grown children and a chocolate lab, Cocoa, who sometimes visits the church. She likes to go out for lunch, coffee, or a walk. Contact her at email@example.com to schedule an individual appointment.
Alice van Wambeke, Director of Music
Alice grew up in Detroit and in seventh grade began playing for morning Mass at her Catholic school. She earned an undergraduate degree in music education and a master’s degree in organ performance from Eastern Michigan University. She has also studied harpsichord and early music at the University of Michigan. Alice has been organist and choirmaster at Saint James for seventeen years, directing both the adult and youth choirs. For seven years, she led a music series at the church with local musicians performing all styles of music. Her goal at Saint James is to perform music of the highest caliber to praise God through the arts.
Kathie Sandmaier, Director of Christian Formation
Kathie was raised in the Episcopal church and has been a church professional for over four decades. She defines her role as a traditional Christian catechist—a teacher of the faith who accompanies people of God on their journeys. Her methods engage children, adolescents, and adults so they are enabled not only to ask questions but to begin searching out answers on their own. Kathie views all people as theologians in their own right and learns from them every week as she facilitates adult Bible studies, Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, and other formation opportunities.
Sally Messner, Office Manager
Sally Messner is a member at Saint James and serves as director of music at First Presbyterian Church in South Lyon. She studied music and the humanities at Valparaiso University and is the artistic director of the Elm Ensemble. Sally worked as an executive administrative assistant at Augsburg Fortress and as program assistant for contextual education at Luther Seminary, where she studied music and theology. She enjoys sharing her administrative, communications, and artistic skills as a way of sharing the gospel with others.
