Saint James Dexter welcomes local soprano soloist and conductor Alice McAllister Tillman. Tillman has directed choirs in the Ann Arbor schools and taught part-time at Mary Grove College. She has appeared with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and performed Ave Maria at Aretha Franklin’s funeral in Detroit.
Tillman is artistic director of Detroit’s award-winning Brazeal Dennard Chorale, whose mission is to “remember, discover, preserve, and share the Negro spiritual as a part of the artistic community and to rediscover and perform significant choral works by African American composers.” The Chorale won gold and silver medals at the 2012 World Choir Games.
We are fortunate to have Ms. Tillman share her musical talents with us during worship at Saint James in February—Black History Month. During the 9:45 service, she will sing the spiritual “You Know I’ve Been Changed” with our choir. All are welcome at this worship service.
